Un racconto fatto di emozioni create dalla luce riflessa e talvolta filtrata ci invita a scoprire gli edifici della città con lo sguardo rivolto ai dettagli.
Come in un gioco di geometrie si formano reticoli, “impalcature” entro cui poter costruire l’immagine. Preziosi decori custodiscono le storie del passato e del presente, invitando l’osservatore a riflettere sul futuro.
La mostra è inserita nel programma della 18ª edizione di Photofestival, la rassegna di fotografia d’autore che dal 15 settembre al 31 ottobre 2023 propone un ricco programma di mostre e altre iniziative diffuse sul territorio metropolitano di Milano, in alcune province lombarde e in altre località italiane, per promuovere la cultura dell’immagine.

A photographic story made up of emotions created by reflected and sometimes filtered light invites us to discover the buildings of the city with an eye to detail.As in a game of geometries, lattices are formed, "scaffolding" within which the image can be built. Precious decorations preserve the stories of the past and the present, inviting the observer to reflect on the future.
The exhibition is included in the program of the 18th edition of Photofestival, the exhibition of art photography which from 15 September to 31 October 2023 offers a rich program of exhibitions and other initiatives spread throughout the metropolitan area of Milan, in some Lombard provinces and in others Italian locations, to promote the culture of images .
TESTO PERSONALE
La prima volta che arrivai a Milano fu nel 2013. Mi ritrovai in un posto nuovo e diverso dalla mia amata Palermo che da subito incuriosì il mio sguardo vorace di particolari e di bellezza.
Le strade con le sue basole mi riportarono dritto verso luoghi affascinanti in cui mi fermavo a guardare fermo e in silenzio per coglierne l’essenza.
Cominciai a vedere la città attraverso le superfici riflettenti delle sue finestre. Le pozzanghere allo svanir della pioggia diventarono specchi da cui poter scorgere i colori e i disegni delle facciate. Le architetture dei palazzi rimanevano in esse come sospese tra i cieli tersi e cangianti dopo la pioggia. Lamiere di macchine d’epoca diventavano anch’essi fondali da cui rimbalzavano le forme distorte di piazze e cortili facendole sembrare composizioni astratte.
Da subito catturarono la mia attenzione i suoi palazzi nobiliari, che seppur modesti nella facciata, avevano cancelli riccamente decorati da intrecci organici e volute in ferro battuto che impreziosivano la vita nascosta dei suoi giardini. Erano luoghi dell’attesa, spazi di separazione o soglie da cui potevo contemplare a fondo lo spirito del luogo e godermi la magia del momento.
Con il passare degli anni ebbi la fortuna di entrare in molti edifici storici e di visitare i loro interni. Quello che mi affascinava di più era scoprire come elementi architettonici, dai particolari apparentemente insignificanti, se attentamente composti nell’inquadratura, potessero riportare in vita geometrie nascoste che davano senso all’immagine. Erano porte dalle superfici in vetro con toni cangianti che riflettevano le colonne di porticati creando nuove visioni prospettiche e moltiplicandone i punti di fuga. Lucernari che dalle scale si estendevano fino al tetto avvolgendo tutto lo spazio intorno con motivi organici variopinti generando dimensioni spaziali nascoste come in una sorta di viaggio metafisico. Finestre che dall’interno filtravano la luce incorniciando la natura all’esterno silenziosa come un prezioso decoro e rendendo il tempo unico e immutabile.
Non erano altro che impalcature della mia mente da cui scaturivano nuovi scenari dell’immagine attraverso cui guardavo la città.

PERSONAL TEXT
The first time I arrived in Milan was in 2013. I found myself in a new and different place from my beloved Palermo which immediately intrigued my gaze, hungry for details and beauty.
The streets with their flagstones took me straight back to fascinating places where I stopped to look still and in silence to grasp their essence.
I began to see the city through the reflective surfaces of its windows. As the rain faded, the puddles became mirrors from which the colors and designs of the facades could be seen. The architecture of the buildings remained there as if suspended between the clear and changing skies after the rain. Sheets of vintage cars also became backdrops from which the distorted shapes of squares and courtyards bounced off, making them look like abstract compositions.
His noble palaces immediately caught my attention, which although modest in façade, had gates richly decorated with organic weavings and wrought iron volutes that embellished the hidden life of his gardens. They were places of waiting, spaces of separation or thresholds from which I could fully contemplate the spirit of the place and enjoy the magic of the moment.
As the years went by I was lucky enough to enter many historic buildings and visit their interiors. What fascinated me most was discovering how architectural elements, with apparently insignificant details, if carefully composed in the frame, could bring hidden geometries to life that gave meaning to the image. They were doors with glass surfaces with changing tones that reflected the columns of porticoes, creating new perspective visions and multiplying their vanishing points. Skylights that extended from the stairs to the roof, wrapping the entire space around with colorful organic motifs, generating hidden spatial dimensions as in a sort of metaphysical journey. Windows that filtered the light from inside, framing the silent nature outside like a precious decoration and making time unique and immutable.
They were nothing more than scaffolding of my mind from which new scenarios of the image through which I looked at the city emerged.

Di Girolamo, fotografo e architetto, abituato alle architetture della natia Palermo, osserva con sguardo insieme estraneo e partecipe le architetture di Milano. Uno sguardo curioso ma anche professionale, in grado di cogliere non solo la città attraverso le sue superfici riflettenti, ma anche attraverso quei particolari architettonici apparentemente insignificanti che, se attentamente composti, possono dare vita a geometrie inedite, nuovi sensi e rinnovati scenari.
Di Girolamo a photographer and architect used to the buildings of the native Palermo, observes the buildings of Milan through the eyes of an outsider-turned-insider. Curious yet professional, his gaze captures the city not only through its reflecting surfaces, but also through the seemingly meaningless architectural details which - put together carefully - can give life to unprecedented patterns, new feelings and moderned landscapes.

Pietro Di Girolamo presenta alla Biblioteca Dergano-Bovisa (dal 16 al 30 settembre) in occasione della diciottesima edizione di Photofestival un racconto fotografico fatto di emozioni create dalla luce riflessa e talvolta filtrata. È un invito al pubblico a scoprire gli edifici della città con lo sguardo rivolto ai dettagli. In un gioco di geometrie e di atmosfere si scopre una Milano ricca di un passato glorioso e di un presente rivolto al futuro (di Giovanni Pelloso).
